CHESTER TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested the person who stabbed a 93-year-old Chester Township woman on Saturday.
Mathew Dillon, 24, is currently locked up in the Ashland County Jail facing charges.
Deputies say Dillon did not know the elderly victim.
She told deputies a man driving a red vehicle came to her door asking for gasoline and when she told him that she had none, he stabbed her in the neck, chest and abdomen.
"It sure is a horrendous thing. Can't imagine why somebody would pick on a 93-year-old woman," said her brother, and nearby neighbor.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for surgery. She is now recovering from her serious injuries in intensive care at an Akron hospital.
"She had surgery, had to take some of her bowel out and gall bladder," said the neighbor.
Those who know her are worried she won't survive.
"If there's no infection, they think she'll make it," the neighbor said.
Additional charges may be filed as this case moves forward. For now, Dillon remains behind bars, awaiting his next courtroom appearance on Tuesday.
