MENTOR, OH (WOIO) - The woman accused of murdering her mom pleaded not guilty in Mentor Municipal Court Monday afternoon.
Judge John Trebets set Dawn Pierce's bond at $5 million.
Mentor Police say Pierce stabbed her mom, Lillian, multiple times.
On Sunday around 9:30 a.m., the Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to a business on Mentor Avenue in Painesville Township to check on Dawn Pierce, who was lying on the ground behind the business.
While talking to her, she allegedly stated that she had killed her mom and gave police the address.
When Mentor Police arrived at the Tipperary Lane address, they found the body of Lillian Pierce in the kitchen.
Neighbors are heartbroken and say they already miss their friend.
"It is a fine family and we are devastated with their daughter and what happened. She is a good person. She has an illness," said McDonald.
Friends say Dawn Pierce had psychological problems, although that has not been confirmed by law enforcement and was not brought up in court.
Catherine and William Tropp live right next door.
"She was a very nice person. She didn't deserve that," said Catherine Tropp.
"I am not used to this sort of thing. I was kind of surprised yesterday. I was out riding my bike and I came home and was faced with the street practically being closed off," said William Tropp.
Police have not released a motive.
