If he hasn't done it yet, he's definitely making his case. Browns fans got a big thrill in Sunday's game, but it would be hard to find fans more pumped up than the ones at Brian Hoyer's old high school.
It was a dramatic come-from-behind win led by Cleveland's own, Brian Hoyer. But no one was more excited than players at St. Ignatius High School, where Hoyer was a star.
"It's fun to watch. Great quarterback," said Dennis Grosel, a St. Ignatius junior.
"I think Brian Hoyer is doing a good job. He's definitely got everything going in the right direction with that win on Sunday," said senior Jay Kucia.
Hoyer earned high marks for his poise under pressure. The win came with just over a minute left in the game.
His former coach was not surprised.
"He always liked those two-minute drills, where you had to go down the field. He always enjoyed that. So for us, it doesn't shock us that he's doing that," explained Chuck Kyle, St. Ignatius' football coach.
"A lot of pride. You're in his footsteps right now being a quarterback. You're just thinking, at one time, he was doing the same stuff you're doing. It's awesome," said Grosel.
Manziel has gotten more hype, but Hoyer was money on Sunday, and his reputation lives on at St. Ignatius.
"I've heard people say maybe best Ignatius quarterback of all time," said Kucia.
We'll have to see if he can be one of the best Browns quarterbacks of all time.
