AVON LAKE, OH (WOIO) -

Residents are on edge after a string of residential burglaries in Avon Lake. Four of them were in the last week.

Avon Lake Police say the burglaries began late last week. In one case on Montego Court, burglars forced their way into a home.

"Generally, Avon Lake is a quiet community and we don't usually have that many burglaries, but there are some drug issues in this town, so that's my reaction," said Sharon Johnson.

"It doesn't matter where you live. You can't be too careful," said Kathy Fox.

Another incident took place on Hyannis Port Circle. A woman reported that someone broke into her condo while she was away.

"It is a little frightening, because we tend to keep our doors open," said Fox.

Burglars also hit two homes on the same block on Moore Road. Some residents say they already take precautions to protect their homes.

"I have an alarm system. I lock my doors. I don't leave my garage open," said Fox.

"I have two dogs, so they make a lot of noise. But I'll keep an eye out closer in my neighborhood," Johnson said.

Avon Lake Police are working on some leads and trying to determine if the same person or group is responsible for the crimes. Anyone with more information is urged to call police at 440-933-4567.
