MENTOR, OH (WOIO) - A Mentor High School freshman has been upgraded from critical to fair condition after being injured during the football game against Brunswick Thursday evening.
Matt Gianfagna was lifeflighted to MetroHealth Hospital after a collision on the field.
The 14-year-old running back lost consciousness, but regained it while waiting for the helicopter.
His mom says he has regained mobility and movement in his arms and they are waiting for a neurosurgeon to examine him again.

We're ever so thankful for the outpouring of love and concern from the Mentor High School coaching staff and administration, and want to send a special thank you to the first responders at the game for working so quickly and taking such great care of Matt.
Another heartfelt thank you to all Matt's friends' parents for showing us what a wonderful community we live in.
We are huge believers in the power of prayer and just ask that you keep Matt in your prayers for a smooth recovery . He is looking forward to getting back on the football field next year.
