Cleveland officer involved shooting on city's east side

19 Action News has learned of an officer involved shooting at E. 146th Street and Spear Avenue in Cleveland. The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. 

A police union official said the officer was chasing the male suspect on foot, and right before the suspect started to climb a fence the officer told him to put up his hands. 

The suspect then reached into his waistband and pulled out a small handgun. The officer fired two shots. 

The suspect's father says he is 32. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center via EMS, and is listed in critical condition.  

Sources tell us that the officer was new to the force.
