Everyone at 19 Action News is sending sympathy to the family and friends of one of Romona's Kids, whose story had a bittersweet ending.

Back in June, we brought you the inspiring story of a young woman who was taking her battle with cancer and turning it into something to help others going through the same struggle. Sadly, Canetta Davis passed away this week, and we want to pay tribute to a remarkable spirit.

Canetta Davis had big dreams, like being a news anchor. At age 16, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She beat it and headed to college. But this past year, Canetta found out she had lung cancer. She wanted to make sure she left a legacy, so she decided to create a line of clothing to raise money for cancer research.

Her mother, Donna Davis, came up with the brand name “True Survivor.” The Leprechaun Foundation and two students from Virginia Marti College of Art and Design helped make the dream come true.

One theme, “Courage, Hope, Strength,” fit a spirit that could never be broken. And the advice she took from her mother is also giving comfort now, to everyone who loved this beautiful, always-smiling young woman.

“You cry, you get your last little cry out, sometimes it's good to cry, but then you get back up on your feet and you stay strong,” said Davis.
