Worker injured in fire at N. Canton plant

On Friday, December 12, a fire broke out at the old Hoover Plant located at 101 East Maple Street, North Canton. 

Fire crews were dispatched to the property at 2:40 p.m. 

Upon arrival Chief Bacon ordered a second alarm be struck and requested mutual aid from Greentown and Plain Township Fire Departments.

Crews discovered flames in the electrical sub station and smoke coming from the building on the first and second floors, a basement fire was also quickly extinguished. 

Due to the size of the complex, a portion of East Maple Street was closed for fire department access. 

An employee working on the site was injured during the fire and was transported to Akron Children's Hospital.  The blaze forced several businesses to evacuate for several hours. 

American Electric Power (AEP) cut the power to the area to assist fire crews.

The building is owned by Maple Street Commerce LLC.The North Canton Fire Prevention Bureau is continuing their investigation and working with the building owners to assess the damage estimates. 

The North Canton Fire Department responded with four engines, one ladder truck, three medic units and 30 personnel.
