It was the moment most Browns fans have been waiting for, 2014 first-round pick Johnny Manziel will make his first career NFL start. Unfortunately it did not go as planned for Manziel or Browns fans from the get-go.
The Bengals on the very first drive would march up the field and Jeremy Hill would cap it off and run in for a 2-yard touchdown. It was a 7:07 minute drive. Bengals strike first 7-0
In comes Johnny Manziel, his first series as a starter went for a three and out. The Bengals would add to their lead on the following possession on a 44-yard field goal by Mike Nugent. Bengals would lead 10-0.
Much like the first drive, Manziel and the Browns would get their second three-and-out. Just like head coach Mike Pettine would say will happen, players who sack Manziel will throw up the “Money sign”. That happened in the first quarter when Wallace Gilberry would sack Manziel.
In the second quarter Bengals running back Jeremy Hill would add to his already monster game by adding his second touchdown of the game on a mean stiff-arm from 16-yards out. Bengals pouring it on with a 17-0 lead.
Haden who has held A.J Green to minimal yards on his catches left the field in the second quarter and headed into the locker room with a shoulder injury.
Manziel would throw his first interception in their own territory. The Bengals would turn that into another field goal by Mike Nugent. Bengals up 20-0.
The Browns defense would finally show up, Craig Robertson would make an incredible interception and would have a good run back, but it would be called back on a penalty.
Manziel and the Browns offense was moving down the field with minutes left in the first half. However Manziel would throw an interception in the endzone and the Bengals would run out the final 2 minutes of the half. Browns trail the Bengals 20-0. Manziel stat line for the first half: 4/9 passing for 22 yards and 2 interceptions
The Third quarter was uneventful for both teams. The only score came from the leg of Nugent who added three points for the Bengals. 23-0 Bengals.
Manziel would finally connect with Josh Gordon and even used his legs to make a decent gain, but penalties would bury the team on the teams final drive in the third.
There would be no action in the fourth quarter until the final minute of the game, Rex Burkhead would get a 10-yard rushing touchdown. The Bengals would win 30-0.
Manziel's final stat line was 10 of 18 passing for 80 yards and 2 interceptions.
