BEREA, OH (WOIO) - The annual toy distribution held by
to provide toys for children of Greater Cleveland families in need, is in great jeopardy this year.
Requests for all types of outreach assistance at Church Street Ministries are up 60% over the 2013 holiday season, and with donations down, the 28-year agency is having a difficult time fulfilling its clients' needs. Since 1986, CSM has assisted Cuyahoga County families in crisis situations and has always offered toys and food at Christmas.
"Demand for toys are way up this year," said Church Street Ministries' founder and director of outreach Frannie Millward. "We are receiving a tremendous increase in requests for toys than ever before. Our goal has always been to provide each child from the families we serve with a toy under the tree to open on Christmas morning."
This year, however that may not happen if donations do not come into the agency soon.
New and gently used, clean toys and games are needed for newborns through teenagers. Gift cards are needed for teens. Also in immediate need are donations of hams, turkeys and canned and boxed food goods to provide families with holiday food baskets.
Donations of cash, checks and gift cards are also welcomed at Church Street Ministries. All donations are tax deductible.
All donations are accepted at the agency's Second Mile Shop, 398 W. Bagley Rd., Suite #7. Church Street Ministries is located next to McDonald's and across the street from Marc's. For additional information, call 440-826-4531 or 440-826-4603.
