CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - A teen accused of bullying a classmate appeared in a
courtroom today. Ayan Burton, 18, is accused of assaulting a 17-year-old, while his friend videotaped it. The tape was later uploaded on a social media site.
Burton has been charged with felonious assault but prosecutors say more charges could follow. His bond was set at $15,000.
The assault took place on Nov. 11. near Cedar and Taylor Roads. In the video, Burton is shown taunting the teen, who tries to walk away. Then, Burton punches him in the face. The teen's 14-year-old brother then steps in to help, but Burton viciously slams him into the ground, punches, and knees him.
Burton goes back to the 17-year-old and proceeds to knock him out old while friends cheer on the fight. Burton was backed up by about eight other people.
Please move away from my son. Please move away," Burton's mother said to reporters at court.
Burton was silent during the hearing, his lawyer filing a plea of not guilty.
Incidents like this are increasing in Cleveland Heights despite school rules against it.
