Mysterious investigation into shots fired at off-duty state trooper

We've learned of a strange investigation into claims by an off-duty state trooper that someone fired shots at him on a Cleveland street.

Trooper Darrell McClain told

it happened in the early morning hours of Saturday in the 13300 block of Shaker Blvd. But records show McClain didn't call 911.

He says an SUV pulled up next to him and shot at him. McClain told police he then chased the vehicle, but lost it. A short time later, he says, he saw the vehicle again, and more shots were fired at him.

Yet, a report shows the off-duty trooper drove home, grabbed a rifle, then called the Medina Highway Patrol Post.

Finally, Cleveland Police say he went to their Fourth District headquarters to file a report, but he took two other troopers with him.

The

says there's no indication McClain was targeted because he is a trooper.

The main Cleveland Police report lists his address as Fourth District headquarters.
