RTA bus driver assaulted by 2 passengers

confirms that one of their bus operators was attacked on Monday around 2:45 p.m. on the #3 Superior bus.

The RTA says the assault occurred on Superior westbound at E.105

, while the the bus was parked and the operator was out of his seat in the aisle.

According to the RTA, assailants from a prior incident at 1:54 p.m. were waiting in a parking lot on the northeast corner of Superior and E. 105th. They entered the bus through the rear door, assaulted the operator, then fled. 

The RTA says descriptions are questionable at this time.

The operator suffered lacerations to his face and was transported to the hospital. He indicated he had an earlier encounter with one of the assailants around 1:54 p.m. at Superior and E. 52nd

Transit Police responded to both incidents.

An investigation is ongoing. The RTA says the bus was not equipped with surveillance cameras as the bus is scheduled to be retired in 2015.
