49ers release Ray McDonald

San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke announced that the team has released DT Ray McDonald from his contract.

The eight year pro played in all 14 games for the 49ers this season.

McDonald was investigated in August and September for domestic violence and was never charged with any crime.

McDonald is part of a rape investigation and the San Jose police served a search warrant at the home of McDonald.

The NFL announced a new domestic violence and sexual assault policy earlier in the season, McDonald could be the first potential case under the new person conduct policy.
