NEWBURGH HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Exclusive video obtained by 19 Action News shows a man dumped out of a car in a parking lot and left for dead. Now, police say the man later died from a heroin overdose, and two women in that car are facing charges of involuntary manslaughter.
A Cuyahoga County grand jury has indicted Patricia Kane and Marla Fanara after
spent months building the case.
Police say on Memorial Day they received a call about a man on the ground behind the Speedway store. Anthony Ashby died two days later.
Investigators went through 1,200 pages of phone records and more. They found Ashby had been in a car with Kane and Fanara. Security video shows the car pulling up, a woman walking away, another woman driving away, and a man left behind on the ground.
Newburgh Heights Police found Fanara actually made the 911 call. On the tape, a woman claims to know little, except a man is on the ground.
Fanara is now in state prison from other charges.
Police say Kane is a registered nurse, and she had met Ashby at the doctor's office where she works.
We left a message for her and have not heard back.
