    It has already been a busy flu season at the MetroHealth Medical Center Emergency Room. Dr Charles Emerman, the chair of the department, says they are currently seeing 50 to 60 more patients a day than normal and he expects that to get worse.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Cuyahoga County Board of Health reports three influenza-related deaths occurred between Dec. 7 and Dec. 13.

According to the department, the residents were senior citizens from Brecksville, Cleveland and Shaker Heights respectively.

Cuyahoga County health officials say this has already started to be a busy flu season. Over the past three weeks, there have been 309 flu-related hospital admissions, which is 162 percent higher than last year, a total of 191 more cases. The previous five-year average for this year is 40 hospitalizations.

A total of 429 people visited hospital emergency rooms for flu and flu-like symptoms. Officials say that is the highest number in five years and 154 percent higher than last year.

Officials also say the number of doctor visits due to influenza-like illnesses has nearly tripled over the past few weeks.

Flu Symptoms:

-Moderate to high fever

-Dry cough

-Headache

-Sore throat

-Chills

-Runny nose

-Loss of appetite

-Muscle aches

-Tiredness
