NORTHEAST OHIO (WOIO) - It's estimated 100 million people will travel 50 miles or more for Christmas. That's a lot of gas and at the recent pocket-pleasing prices, that's also a lot of savings.
We checked in at the Get Go on West 117th Street. Just blocks from the I-90 entrance.
19 Action News Reporter Dan Deroos set out to find travelers getting on the road for Christmas.
"Ohh I'm getting on the road," said Dave Nakoneczny. "It's my girlfriends family, she goes to Michigan State but she's back by Detroit for the holidays."
So Deroos whipped out his handy dandy calculator, also known as a cell phone to see how much money Dave will be saving this year driving from Cleveland to just north of Detroit.
According to Google, Cleveland to Macomb, Michigan is 201 miles.
Last year at $3.40 a gallon, round trip it cost him $54.67. This year at $2.14, his round trip cost is $34.41.
This year on his Christmas trip Dave is saving $20.26.
"$20 very nice. Someone's getting a nicer gift this year, then they did last year," said Nakoneczny.
