According to Szabo, there was no notification given to the union or firefighters.
President Szabo says that he had recently spoken to Fire Chief Patrick Kelly and he failed to mention that the fire company would be affected in this nature.
In addition to servicing the Westpark neighborhood, engine #39 is also dispatched to the Cleveland Hopkins Airport.
Szabo states that the cut puts the residences and businesses at greater risk.
William Daniels, Media Relations Director for the City of Cleveland, says that on Christmas Day fire station #39 was reduced to 34 emergency response units just one less than what is normally in operation.
Daniels states that in order to keep within budgetary constraints without closing a fire station one unit is not available today.
All units will be back in operation on December 26.
