Akron PD arrest man for breaking into Boost Mobile

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Around 7:30 p.m. on Christmas night, officers working the North Hill area of Akron noticed a man walking on East Tallmadge Avenue near Blaine Street carrying something wrapped up with his coat.

Officers say when they asked him what he was carrying he said,"Christmas presents for the kids."

When officers got out of their cruiser, the male dropped his coat with the items wrapped up and took off running.

After a brief foot chase, the male was taken into custody.

An officer located nine cell phones wrapped inside the suspect's coat and a 3" steak knife.

The items were still in their original packaging.

Officers later learned that the glass front door at the Boost Mobile store located at 245 East Tallmadge Avenue, had been broken out.

Officers arrested Erik Gunsberg, 50, of East Tallmadge Avenue in Akron, with breaking and entering, obstructing official business and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was booked into the Summit County Jail.
