Massilon Police troubled by fatal home invasion

MASSILLON, OH (WOIO) - The Massillon Police Department is investigating a home invasion that left one man dead and another injured at a home on Neale Avenue SW.

Police received the call just before 11:30 p.m. Friday, when a 24-year-old Canton man called and said himself and another man, the homeowner, Tonio J. Manson, also 24, were shot after a break-in.

Manson and the other man came into the house through a side door and were followed in by two or three males who forced their way in. There was a struggle, and the suspects drew handguns and fired several rounds into the victims, according to Sgt. Jason Saintenoy with Massillon Police.

The Canton man suffered a shot to the arm and was taken to Massillon Affinity Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Manson was shot in the leg and the chest and was also taken to Affinity where he died from his wounds.

A third person in the home, a 23-year-old woman was unharmed. Police said when they arrived she was doing CPR and chest compressions on Manson to try and save his life.

The male suspects fled on foot from the scene, and at this time police have no descriptions. The Ohio BCI is investigating.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in finding the suspects. Calls can be made to Det. Jason Gohlike at (330) 832-9811, and can be made anonymously.
