When they arrived, officers were told that the 20-year-old female had been driven to University Hospital by a family member. She was later life-flighted to Cleveland Metro Hospital.
According to detectives, it appears that the woman's 20-year-old boyfriend accidentally fired a 9 mm handgun in the kitchen of the apartment. The round struck the female in the back of the head.
Investigators were unable to locate the firearm or the boyfriend at the residence.
The handgun and the boyfriend were found a short time later. Although the incident appears to be accidental, the boyfriend could face criminal charges.
The victim is currently at Cleveland Metro Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
