It's week 17 of the NFL season, as teams are preparing for the playoffs, the Browns resort back to old ways and spiral out of control towards the end of the season. The Browns started the year off great under Brian Hoyer where they started 7-4. Injuries hit the Browns hard this year, the biggest being Center Alex Mack. The Browns come into the final week of the season with a 7-8 record and riding a four game losing streak. The Ravens needed to win and the Chargers to lose to make the playoffs.
Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was suspended for the final game of the season due to missing the teams walk-through on Saturday. It was later reported that Manziel missed hamstring treatment and was fined.
With Manziel out for the game with a hamstring injury and Brian Hoyer out with a shoulder injury, the Browns turn to their third starting quarterback of the 2014 season, rookie quarterback Connor Shaw.
Shaw and the Browns started the game off quick, getting down the field. However it would be altered due to a miss handed snap exchange from the center to Shaw, the Ravens would recover the fumble. The Browns defense played the Ravens tough, the first quarter was scoreless for both teams. The only potential score came by the Ravens when they threatened by getting inside the 2-yard line, but decided to go for it on fourth down and could not convert.
The first points of the game would come in the second quarter off the leg of Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, who connected on a 25-yard field goal to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead.
Minutes later the Browns offense would drive down the field and Garrett Hartley would connect on a 38-yard field goal to tie the game at 3. No more points would be scored by either team for the rest of the half. Halftime, tied 3-3.
The Browns offense would come alive on their second drive in the third quarter. Connor Shaw would scramble and find an open Taylor Gabriel who took it down to the 2-yard line for a 49-yard pass play. The next play Terrance West would punch it in from 2-yards out giving the Browns a 10-3 lead over the Ravens.
In the fourth quarter the Ravens would add a field goal, Tucker connected from 28-yards out. Browns remain in the lead 10-6.
With 7:33 left in the game, Torrey Smith and Joe Flacco connected for 53-yards, the very next play Flacco would find Smith again for a 16-yard touchdown to give the Ravens a 13-10 lead. The Browns could not get positive yards on the following possession, and the Ravens would take advantage by scoring a touchdown by Aiken giving the Ravens a 20-10 lead with 3:44 left in the game.
The Ravens would run the clock out to end the game. Ravens complete the season sweep of the Browns with a 20-10 victory. Connor Shaw finishes with 14/28 passing for 177 yards and one interception. Terrance West rushed the ball 18 times for 94 yards and a touchdown.
The Browns would finish the season with a 7-9 record.
