NEW YORK (RNN) – Two New York Police Department officers were shot Monday night, but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, the New York Times reported.
One officer was shot in the back and another was grazed by a bullet, the Times reported. The officers were responding to a robbery call in the Bronx when they encountered the men near a Chinese restaurant, and one of the suspect came out of the restaurant and fired on the officers.
"The officers, who were part of a five-member plainclothes anti-crime team, were searching for suspects wanted for an armed robbery which occurred 10 minutes earlier at a grocery store," NYPD Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said.
Both officers, whose names have not been released, are expected to survive. One of the officers was undergoing surgery Tuesday morning, Bratton said, and the other was in stable condition.
Bratton said two male suspects are wanted in connection with the shooting, at least one of whom may be wounded.. They carjacked a vehicle to escape the scene. That car was later abandoned.

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The Cleveland Cavaliers picked up guards Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith from the New York Knicks and a protected 2015 first round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder.  In exchange, the Cavs will send guard Dion Waiters to the Thunder.  The team will also send Lou Amundson, Alex Kirk and the 2019 second round pick to the Knicks.
The trade comes after Waiters was pulled from Monday's game against Philadelphia.
In a statement, Cavs general manager David Griffin said, "We wish Dion the best as he continues his career with the Thunder and thank him for his effort and work here with the Cavaliers. Dion is a talented player with potential ahead of him. Trades like this are always difficult to make because there are relationships and bonds built and that was the case with Dion. At the same time, we're very excited to welcome Iman and J.R. to Cleveland. With their size and versatility, we think both Iman and J.R. can help our team on both ends of the court and we look forward to them joining us."
Lebron James included Waiters' name in his return letter to Cleveland. In the past, there were reports that Waiters and Kyrie Irving could not coexist.
