AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Judge Paul Gallagher sentenced Nathaneal Carter, 33, of Akron, to life in prison Wednesday. Carter will be eligible for a parole hearing after serving 30 years in prison.
Carter was found guilty of:
• Murder, a special felony, with firearm specifications
• 2 counts of felonious assault, a felony of the first degree
• Having weapons while under disability, a felony of the third degree
• Tampering with evidence, a felony of the third degree
Authorities say on June 11, 2014, Carter fatally shot Donald Carter, 18, on Cole Avenue. Donald Carter was visiting his friend. Days earlier, Donald Carter's friend had an altercation with Nathaneal Carter. Donald Carter and his friend were standing in the front yard of his friend's home when Nathaneal Carter drove down the street and open fired on the two men. Donald Carter attempted to retreat back to the house, but later collapsed in the yard after being shot in the back. Officers say the suspect and victim were not related.
