CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The total number of flu-related hospitalizations in Cuyahoga County for the season to date has hit 1,039. According to health department officials, it's the highest since surveillance began in 2009 and is approximately 50 percent higher than the H1N1 flu season.
Last week, the county saw 52 flu-related hospitalizations this week and one local flu-related death this week-a 55-year old Parma resident. So far this season, eight people have died from the flu in Cuyahoga County.
There were 326 visits to the emergency room this week from people with flu-like illness. That's down 20 percent from last week. Over-the-counter medication sales were also down 15 percent. Doctor visits decreased for the second consecutive week.
