Warrants issued for mother and son after Massillon house explosion

MASSILLON, OH (WOIO) - Massillon Police now say a mother and her 19-year-old son are accused of setting fire to their North Avenue NE home, causing a massive explosion.

Police issued warrants for their arrests today.

Investigators ruled out natural gas as a cause of the house explosion at 4:30 a.m. on Monday, January 12.

Police are not saying how the mother-son duo may have started the fire.

The house was leveled.

The 19-year-old was inside the house at the time of the blast. He was taken to Akron Childrens Hospital for burns.

The state fire marshal's office is assisting in the investigation.
