ASHTABULA, OH (WOIO) - The Medina County Water Department, the city of Avon Lake and  Aqua Ohio, Inc. (Aqua) canceled their emergency water conservation requests Monday afternoon.

The alerts were issued Sunday to prevent a water shortage.

Freezing temperatures had caused ice to block the flow of water coming in through intake pipes in Lake Erie.

Water treatment staff were able to increase storage overnight and early Monday morning and succeeded in restoring normal water flow from Lake Erie.

Current weather forecasts may lead to similar conditions on Lake Erie within the next 24-72 hours.

Aqua Ohio recommends that customers continue to monitor local media in the event that the company needs to issue another conservation request.

Last January, over 200 thousand residents were impacted after ice stopped the water from flowing for several days before the problem was fixed.
