A broken water pipe in The Salvation Army of Summit County's Distribution Center on Romig Road in Akron has forced The Salvation Army to cancel its Red Shield Food Pantry tomorrow, Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
The Red Shield Food Pantry distributes over 12,000 pounds of non-perishable food to approximately 175 families each month. Rebecca Baker, Social Service Ministry Director of The Salvation Army, hopes to have the Distribution Center open again by the next scheduled distribution date of February 11, 2015.
"We lost nearly everything in the Center," she noted. "We are working to replace everything from the carpet to the tables, appliances, stored food and more," she added.
