AKRON, OH (WOIO) - The monthly food giveaway through the Salvation Army in Akron is back on this month.

Tuesday the facility had to cancel its monthly food distribution to the Red Shield Food Pantry for January after a burst pipe damaged its Romig Road building. The Salvation Army has arranged for client families to receive pantry items through area partners.

Clients may choose one (but not both) of the following locations:

Open M will give away nonperishable food from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at 941 Princeton St., Akron.

Barberton Salvation Army will accept pantry clients from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 23 at 560 Wooster Road W.

The Red Shield Food Pantry distributes over 12,000 pounds of non-perishable food to approximately 175 families each month.
