Akron man hit with murder charges while locked up for rape

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - have arrested a man accused of rape and murder.

The rape allegedly happened on October 19, 2014.

A 35-year-old East Tallmadge Ave. woman says she was taken to an address on Sanford Avenue where she was assaulted and raped then taken back to East Tallmadge Ave. and dropped off.

The woman called police and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police used DNA to connect Brock Andrew Tipping, 31, to the crime. Detectives signed warrants for rape, abductions and felonious assault on Tipping of Sanford Avenue in Akron.

Detectives were also investigating a homicide that occurred on November 15, 2014 in the 200 block of East Emerling Avenue where the victim, Crystal Palm, 33, of East Emerling Street, was found unresponsive inside of her apartment. The victim was found by firefighters who responded to the fire.

Evidence collected at the scene was submitted to the state crime lab. The DNA came back to Tipping as well and detectives signed warrants for aggravated murder and aggravated arson.

Tipping was picked up in Indianapolis, Indiana, in mid-December on the warrants for the Sanford Ave. rape and while he was locked up the DNA profile came back indicating that Tipping was involved in the homicide of Crystal Palm.

He is currently in the Summit County Jail.

Tipping is scheduled to be arraigned in Akron Municipal Court Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.
