Two suspects have been officially charged for their involvement in a shooting incident on Cleveland's east side Wednesday night, in which two officers were injured.

Ellis J. Tiller, 37, has been charged with felonious assault on a police officer and aggravated burglary. Dwayne B. Sheron, 33, has been charged with aggravated burglary.

The charges stem from an incident Wednesday evening when Cleveland police officers responded to a home in the 1400 block of East 61st Street for an aggravated burglary/shooting incident, in which an elderly man came home to find his home had been broken into. Upon encountering the homeowner, a suspect fired shots at the victim.

Around two hours later, police say zone car officers were on routine patrol in the area of East 79th Street and Redell Avenue, when they observed a vehicle matching the description. When officers pulled over the suspect vehicle and began to get out of their car, one of the suspects immediately jumped out from the passenger side. The driver remained in the vehicle.

According to police, when officers ordered the suspect to place his hands on top of the vehicle so they could search him, the contact officer holstered his weapon. The suspect suddenly produced a handgun, pointing it in the direction of the officer. The officer grabbed ahold of the suspect and a struggle ensued, at which point, the suspect fired a shot just narrowly missing the officer's head.

Then, police say both officers continued to struggle with the suspect. When the suspect lost control of his weapon, he tried to pull one of the officer's weapons.

It took back-up officers to help take the suspect into custody.

The second suspect was taken into custody without incident.

One officer sustained multiple injuries, including burns to his face, hearing loss, a laceration/bite to his finger, damage to the cornea of one eye and abrasions to his hands. The second officer sustained contusions to his head and cuts to his hand. Both officers were treated for their injuries at the Cleveland Clinic.
