STRASBURG, OH (WOIO) - On Saturday the family of  slain elderly couple Doyle and Lillian Chumney released a statement to the public.

"The Chumney family would like to extend our sincere thanks and deepest appreciation to everyone for their prayers and encouragement as we go through this very difficult time. The many ways in which you have reached out to our family has been heartwarming and comforting. We are especially grateful for the many prayers that we know surround our entire family.

We encourage anyone with information regarding the ongoing investigation to please contact your local law enforcement agency.

We also want to extend our gratitude to the many local, county, state and federal law enforcement personnel for their continued tireless efforts. We also appreciate the efforts of the news media in respecting our privacy.

We would be most grateful if your family would continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers."

Ron Chumney, Diane Enama, Ed Chumney and Wesley Chumney

The message from the family comes two days after authorities confirmed that the Chumney's burning vehicle was located about twenty minutes from their Strasburg home with their bodies burning inside the car.

A multi-jurisdictional task force is working to find out the details surrounding their death.
