Jogger struck in Shaker Heights hit and run was 5th grade teacher in district

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Shaker Heights Police say that a man was struck by a car while jogging on South Park Boulevard on Saturday evening. 

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. between Cortland and Eaton Roads. 

James Caffrey, 51, died at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.

Caffrey was a 5th grade teacher at Woodbury Elementary and grief counselors will be at the school Monday. 

Brown-Forward Funeral Services in Shaker Heights are handling the arrangements and have more information on Caffrey's life.

The driver of a Toyota Avalon left the car and fled on foot. There is no description being released. 

Shortly before the accident University Heights Police pulled the driver over for a traffic violation on Warrensville Center Road. The driver stopped, but before the officer approached the car, the driver took off in the car. 

The suspect remains on the loose.
