1 dead, 3 injured in Cleveland car crash


is investigating a fatal, two-vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

According to police, a 62-year-old male was backing a Dodge Neon out of a private driveway in the 1300 block of West 116th Street when a 32-year-old male driving a Ford Escape heading southbound on West 116th collided with it. The force of impact caused the Neon to spin out of control, striking a fire hydrant off the east side of the roadway.

The 62-year-old male was conveyed to EMS, where he was pronounced dead. Two passengers inside the Neon, a 21-year-old female and a 5-year -old girl, were both treated and released from MetroHealth Medical Center.

The 32-year-old male was conveyed to Lakewood Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Police say all four were wearing their seat belts.

At this time, police say no alcohol or drugs are suspected, but toxicology reports are pending.

The posted speed limit for the area is 25 mph.
