AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron Fire Department officials say they're looking into space heaters as a possible cause of Thursday's fire on Barbara Avenue.

The space heaters were heating the home, because there was no furnace.

The house also did not have smoke detectors.

Seven firefighters were injured fighting the fire. Four were treated and released from the hospital. The other three were treated at the scene.

Three residents were injured, two women and a man, but only the two women went to the hospital. One is suffering from smoke inhalation and one is suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. Both remain in the hospital.

The family dog survived. Several other pets, including cats, rabbits and birds were killed.
