A local 4-year-old is fighting for his life and police say his father's girlfriend is to blame.

For a parent, it doesn't get any worse than when your little boy, full of life, ends up in a hospital bed with multiple injuries.

Michael Reece's mother, Angel Flores, spoke exclusively with our Scott Taylor."He is 4 years old. He is a very happy," she said, as she starts to cry. "He loves to play, cuddle and give kisses."

Police say Michael father's girlfriend, Crystal Anderson, assaulted the boy, who everyone knows as Mikey, at a home on Brooklyn Avenue in Cleveland.

Flores says she has full custody of her son.

"He was with his dad for 10 days," she said.

In the incident report, Anderson tells police Mikey was taking a bath and when she stepped out to smoke, she heard a thump. When she came back, she found him unresponsive. She then dried him off and dressed him. Afterwards, she called 911.

Anderson is charged with felonious assault and has bailed out of jail.

We knocked on her door, but there was no answer.

So far, Mikey has undergone several surgeries. Flores says he suffered bruising on his body and significant trauma to his head. Currently, he is alive and fighting for his life.

Cards for Mikey can be dropped off at the Cleveland Police Department's Second District. So far, the family has not set up any fundraising account.

"Every moment he is here and he is breathing, it gives us so much hope," said Flores.

Mikey is set for another surgery on Tuesday.
