CANTON, OH (WOIO) - At least 40 residents are now homeless after firefighters were called out to the 2700 block of Rowland Avenue NE for an apartment fire at 1:30 a.m.
Officials said the 12-unit building sustained extensive damage. It was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived and residents were still coming out.
Because of cold conditions, firefighters had issues with the fire hydrants freezing and while they tried to thaw one of the hydrants the fire got worse.
Luckily no one was injured.
The entire building is currently unlivable.
Red Cross is on the scene and is helping residents.
There is no word on a cause of the fire but officials believe it started in the attic area.
