Man charged after carrying BB gun near elementary school

KENT, OH (WOIO) -

A young man is facing charges after police caught him with a weapon near a school.

Kent Police were called to Holden Elementary School around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, after a report of a person with a gun on the playground. 

The school placed the building on lockdown to ensure student safety. 

Nathaniel Heeter, 18, of Kent, was soon found by police with a BB gun on East School Street near Water Street.

Heeter was arrested and charged with inducing panic, illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordinance or of object indistinguishable from firearm in a school safety zone. 

He was released after the charges were filed.
