EATON TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - The Elyria Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a car vs. train collision on the CSX Railroad Crossing on State Route 83 near Capel Road in Eaton Township Thursday afternoon.

Troopers say 57-year-old Jawad A Al-Nimer of Lorain was driving a Chevrolet Malibu northbound on SR 83 when his car was struck by a westbound train operated by CSX.

Al-Nimer's vehicle was also hit by a second train headed eastbound.

Al-Nimer and a passenger, 78-year-old Mufideh Al-Nimer were both killed.

There's no word on what caused the vehicle to stop on the tracks.

No injuries were reported to any occupants of either train and the roadway was closed for about five hours.

Alcohol is not a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
