Canton father accused of killing baby held on bond

CANTON, OH (WOIO) - The man police say killed his son during a fight with the child's mother is expected in court later this week.

Anthony Benjamin Grove is scheduled to appear in

on Thursday.

According to the police incident report, mother Patricia Fiebig claims some time before 2 a.m. Tuesday, during an argument over Grove smoking while she feeds the baby, Grove grabbed a ceramic mug full of hot coffee and threw it. It hit their 2-month-old son, Zeeland, in the head.

Zeeland was taken to Akron Children's Hospital and died nine hours later.

Edwin Davis lives next door.

"Super shocked. I couldn't believe it," he said.

He and Grove are friends. Davis says Grove was with him at his house that night until he went home.

He calls the death of Zeeland a tragic accident.

"He loved that baby. Talked about him all the time. He had left my home around 8, but I didn't hear any fussing. I didn't hear nothing," recalled Davis.

Grove is charged with murder, child endangering and domestic violence.

He is being held in the Stark County Jail on a $2 million bond.
