North Canton schools are on alert following online threat

NORTH CANTON, OH (WOIO) - North Canton schools spent the day on alert. North Canton police are investigating a shooting threat made online Wednesday evening, around 8:30 p.m. It was against the middle school. 

An eighth grader saw the threat, took a picture of it and posted it on Instagram. It stated, "Going to shoot up NCMS tomorrow...care to be the first?" 

The North Canton City school administration was alerted about the message through their school Safety Tip Hotline and within an hour parents were notified by phone.

The district held a school assembly Thursday with students to discuss the issue.

The North Canton Police Department also had officers stationed at North Canton Middle School, North Canton Hoover High, Orchard Hill Intermediate School, Greentown Intermediate School, Northwood Elementary School, Clearmont Elementary and St. Paul's Holy Cross.
