The 'City of Brotherly Love' has been chosen by Democrats to host the 2016 national convention. The DNC made the announcement Thursday.

Upon hearing the news Mayor Frank Jackson released the following statement:

“I would like to commend the City of Columbus for their bid to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Furthermore, I would like to congratulate the City of Philadelphia and Mayor Michael Nutter on successfully securing the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Both Cleveland and Philadelphia are no strangers to hosting a major event and I am confident that each destination will put on the best political convention possible.”

Cleveland's 2016 Host Committee:

“On behalf of the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee, we want to congratulate the City of Columbus on their efforts in competing in the 2016 Democratic National Convention bid process. Being a top contender for a convention of this magnitude is a great honor no matter the outcome. We would like to congratulate Philadelphia on hosting the 2016 Democratic National Convention. We look forward to the positive outcomes these events will bring to both of our cities.”

Cleveland, at one time, was among the cities vying to host the DNC. Other cities included Brooklyn, Birmingham, Phoenix and Columbus.

Cleveland withdrew its bid to host after the RNC Site Selection Committee announced their recommendation that Cleveland host the 2016 Republican National Convention.
