BEREA, OH (WOIO) - The man charged with driving drunk after ramming a Middleburg Heights police cruiser has entered a not guilty plea in Berea Municipal Court.

George Abboud of Westlake is accused of driving the wrong way on the ramp from I-71 to Bagley Road. He was set to appear in court Thursday, but his lawyer entered the plea a day early to avoid an appearance.

Records show Abboud has faced similar charges four times, but by pleading to lesser charges in two cases he has only one previous DUI on his record.

If Abboud had been held to the original DUI charges and not been allowed to plead down the two cases, the current case involving the policeman would be a more serious felony charge not, the misdemeanor he faces.

The wrecked cruiser is sitting behind the Middleburg Heights Police Station.

Officer Randy Cowie survived the crash.
