Massive fire at Cleveland Clinic forces evacuations

WESTON, FL (WOIO) - A Florida hospital was evacuated Friday afternoon after a fire broke out. The massive fire at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston produced plumes of black smoke that could be seen for miles.

The Cleveland Clinic says around 12:30 pm, a fire occurred on the rooftop of a one-story annex under construction. The fire was contained to the roof area and nobody was injured.

As a precaution, the Cleveland Clinic evacuated its outpatient clinic building located nearby for approximately one hour.

Normal operations have since resumed.

According to authorities and the Cleveland Clinic, construction materials started the fire.

The hospital is constructing a new wing scheduled to open next month.
