AKRON, OH (WOIO) - A 52-year-old man has been charged with murder after being caught in a lie.
Kevin Golec had been staying at his son's home the past few weeks. His son, Brian, was close to asking him to leave, according to his fiancée, after $40 turned up missing.
Over the weekend, Brian and Kevin got into an argument over the phone. When Brian returned home on Friday, investigators say Kevin murdered him.
Kevin called 911 on Friday night and told dispatchers he and his son were just attacked in their Inman Street home.
Dispatcher: "OK. Sir, what do you need?"
Kevin Golec: "What do I need? My son is dying. I think he is dead in my front porch."
On the 911 call, Kevin Golec tells his own story. He claims Brian was in a cult and it was members who broke in and attacked him.
Kevin Golec: "These guys came in. I fought them off. They got him. They got me."
Brian's fiancée says that's simply not true.
"Absolutely not. Brian wasn't part of a cult. He was a spiritual person, but he was not part of a cult," said Sarah Price.
, Kevin is the attacker and he stabbed 22-year-old Brian. Brian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sarah says Brian was an artist, a drummer and had his own band called Murphy's Children out of Akron.
"He was a beautiful soul, a beautiful spirit. He was my soul mate and he wanted more than anything to change the world," she said.
Kevin has been charged with murder and domestic violence. He remains locked up in the Summit County Jail.
