STARK COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - In Stark and Wayne counties, Meals on Wheels is not taking a chance on the cold weather.
They say they will not send volunteers out to make deliveries on Friday, so volunteers and employees did double duty Thursday.
Volunteers delivered hot lunches for clients to eat today, and prepared cold sack lunches for Friday's meal.
The agency's homebound clients depend on those meals for about one-third of their daily nutrition requirements.
Meals on Wheels has to balance the benefits of a hot meal against the safety of its drivers who are already doing a tough job in winter conditions.
Many clients also have meals delivered to get them through the weekend.
Meals on Wheels is always in need of volunteer drivers.
if you would like to volunteer.
