Accused rapist commits suicide before court

LAKE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - Lt. Todd Menmuir of the Lake County Sheriff's Office was asked Tuesday, February 24, 2015 to help find a defendant who did not appear for a jury trial.

The defendant, Michael J. Parziale, 53, was to appear at 8:00 a.m. before the Honorable Judge Richard Collins Jr., of the Lake County Court of Commons Pleas.

Parziale was being charged with multiple counts of rape, multiple counts of sexual battery, gross sexual imposition, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and carrying a concealed weapon. Michael Parziale was currently on bond awaiting his court appearance. A condition of his bond was that he had been ordered to wear a GPS electronic monitoring device.

The GPS electronic monitoring device was utilized to locate Michael Parziale when he did not appear for his scheduled court appearance. The GPS electronic monitoring device had indicated Michael Parziale to be stationary in the parking lot of the Lake Health Administrative Offices, located at 7576 Auburn Rd. Concord Twp., Ohio.

Deputies responded to the parking lot of these administrative offices and located the body of Michael Parziale inside his own vehicle. Michael Parziale died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

There are no signs of criminal activity. The Lake County Coroner's investigator, Ronald Andolsek, responded to scene and had the body of Michael Parziale transported to Lake County Morgue. Drugs or alcohol use is unknown at this time. The suicide is still under investigation.
