Hang on to your striped hats! Today is the National Education Association's 18th annual Read Across America Day, the largest reading event in the country.

Across the nation, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate in Read Across America by bringing together kids, teens and books.

This year, the book to be shared by all those children is the Dr. Seuss classic Oh, The Places You'll Go.

Read Across America is a year-round program focused on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.

It is celebrated on March 2 annually to honor writer and cartoonist, Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel.
