NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OH (WOIO) - The 19-year-old struck and killed while walking home Friday has been identified.

Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner says Brian Steinmetz had been at the McDonalds on Center Ridge and was walking home when he was hit by a 72-year-old driver. Steinmetz was life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center where he died.

Police say the accident remains under investigation.

Friends of the family have started a gofundme account.

According to the website Steinmetz had Asperger's syndrome, a type of autism. He moved from Ohio to Pittsburgh to attend a program for autism. After graduating from high school he moved back to Ohio with his father and sister, where he went to Murray Ridge Center and there he found "purpose and fit in."

More than $1,000 has been raised so far. All donations raised will be given to Murray Ridge Center in honor of Steinmetz, according to the gofundme site.
