AKRON, OH (WOIO) - The Akron Water Department issued an alert for its customers Tuesday: record cold and snowfall could cause your meter and underground house lines to freeze.
Crews have responded to a historic number of customers experiencing frozen meters and underground lines.
Officials suggest that customers who have experienced any freezing at any time in the past, run "a pencil stream" of water around the clock, using the faucet closest to your water meter. This is usually the sink in the basement. A thin stream of water could alleviate repeat freezing, or help you avoid an initial freeze.
